The Benefits of Tirzepatide Beyond Weight Loss

When most people hear tirzepatide, they think weight loss. And yes—that’s the benefit that gets all the attention. But it’s definitely not the whole story.

Tirzepatide works on both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, and researchers are finding that its effects reach into several areas of metabolic health.

Beyond the scale

Research has linked tirzepatide with improvements in:

🔥 InflammationOne of the most interesting ones to me. In a recent SURMOUNT-1 analysis, tirzepatide significantly reduced inflammatory markers including hs-CRP and IL-6.

🩸 Blood sugar + insulin sensitivityTirzepatide helps the body regulate blood sugar and improves insulin sensitivity—one of the reasons it was originally developed as a treatment for type 2 diabetes. The same SURMOUNT-1 analysis found significant improvements in a marker of insulin resistance.

❤️ Cardiometabolic healthStudies have found improvements in several cardiovascular risk markers, including markers related to inflammation, blood-vessel function and metabolism.

🫀 Liver + metabolic healthResearch has also found improvements in biomarkers associated with metabolic and hepatic (liver) stress.

😴 Sleep apneaThis one surprised me. Tirzepatide produced meaningful improvements in obstructive sleep apnea in clinical trials, and Zepbound is now FDA-approved to treat moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity.

So...is tirzepatide an anti-inflammatory?

I wouldn't quite call it an “anti-inflammatory drug.” But studies do show significant reductions in certain markers of systemic inflammation in people taking tirzepatide. And that distinction matters.

For me, this is part of a much bigger conversation about GLP-1/GIP medications. They're often talked about as simply “weight-loss drugs,” when the science surrounding their effects on metabolic health is much more interesting than that.

Where I get mine

I currently get my tirzepatide through the provider I use. You can learn more or check eligibility here.
